This is where you’ll find our “family” news: the exciting things that are going on within The RK Group that either haven’t found their way into the media yet or are of interest primarily to RK team members and family and friends.
SUPPORTING THE TROOPS
We can be proud of our contribution to the grand opening of the new National Armed Forces Physical Rehabilitation Center for troops injured in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other global hotspots. The state-of-the-art facility opens at Brooke Army Medical Center on January 29, 2007.
Greg says, “We were proud to cater and plan the ground breaking event for these remarkable facilities back in September 2005. Compared to the Grand Opening, that was a small event, but we successfully served approximately 500 attendees. The Grand Opening will be attended by 3,000 to 5,000.”
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund financed the 6,000-square-foot center where veterans can heal, exercise, and visit with their families. The four-story center includes a fitness area, indoor tracks, pools, teleconference room, rappelling wall, uneven terrain and obstacle simulations, prosthetics and physical therapy facilities, and a high-tech gait lab to analyze motion. It will have a motor-vehicle simulator, a simulated apartment for veterans to relearn life skills and a children’s support space to help them understand and cope with difficulties. The Fund’s sister organization, Fisher House Foundation, will build two 21-room Fisher Houses, at a cost of about $6 million, to offer low-cost rooms for veterans’ families.
We are donating a significant portion of the preliminary party the day prior to the Grand Opening. We’ll cater a grand Texas Style BBQ for vets and their families. Prissy Kent, AVTS, Jon Keisling and other RK team members have been planning these events for almost an entire year. It’s going to be exciting! Lots of politicos and celebrities will be there and Cher has been asked to sing the national anthem. There will be a spectacular fly over, tents, stages and patriotic flags galore. AVTS has coordinated with The Intrepid planning committee to coordinate with national media and security.
Take pride in our contribution to this celebration of our military heroes. We’re doing our part.
